Most powder handling equipment ships with adhesive-backed nameplates. They look professional. They carry all the right information. And they start failing on Day 1.

Why they fail: Powder plants are harsh environments. CIP cycles with caustic and acidic cleaners. Temperature swings from -20°C to +80°C. High-pressure washdown at 80 bar. Abrasive dust that acts like sandpaper on the label surface.

Within 6 to 18 months, the adhesive softens, the edges curl, and the label peels off. Sometimes it lands in the product stream (a contamination event). Sometimes it just disappears.

Some manufacturers use riveted metal tags. They're more durable than stickers—until someone grinds them off during maintenance. Or until the rivet holes become crevices that trap product and fail cleaning validation.

3. The "Faded Laser" That Nobody Can Read

Some manufacturers laser-etch serial numbers onto the surface. This is better—until the surface gets blasted with glass beads during passivation, or scratched by a wire brush during cleaning. The laser mark is shallow. It disappears.

The result: You know the valve is there. You know it's yours. But you can't prove which valve it is. Your digital records say "Valve #3 is Serial DT-2022-0512." The physical valve says "..."

Why "We Have the Records" Is Not Enough
